WILKES-BARRE — Congressman Paul Kanjorski, D-PA, looks forward to debating Republican opponent, Lou Barletta in a televised debate broadcast district-wide October 29, on WVIA-TV, according to campaign spokesman, Ed Mitchell.
“The debate will give voters in the 11th District a good opportunity to examine the differences between the Congressman and Barletta,” Mitchell said. “We expect the forum will cover a wide range of issues. It will allow people to see how Congressman Kanjorski stands up for the people in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania, especially against the failed policies of George Bush, which Barletta has repeatedly supported the past eight years.”
Mitchell said the busy congressional schedule at the end of the session will not allow time for any other debates. But with this one, the editorial board interviews, and individual meetings where constituents can meet with the Congressman and ask any questions they have, the voters will know by Election Day where each candidate stands.
“The Congressman has a job to do in September in the capital and he’s going to continue to fully represent the people of the 11th, despite the time demands of the campaign. We simply have too many commitments in October after Congress adjourns to fit in any other debates,” Mitchell said.
He added, the Congressman appreciated the numerous invitations to debate that came from many media and community organizations, but feels confident the public television event will provide what voters need to decide.
