Kanjorski Consistently Supportive of Domestic Exploration, Including in ANWR
June 23, 2008
WILKES-BARRE – Congressman Paul Kanjorski (PA-11) has a long and consistent record of voting for domestic oil and gas exploration, including in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska. Unfortunately, Lou Barletta and his extremist Republican partners, including Freedom’s Watch, are spreading false rumors about Congressman Kanjorski’s record of voting on these issues by calling constituents using pre-recorded phone calls that distort the facts.
In reality, Congressman Kanjorski continually supported such drilling during his time in Congress.
“Lou Barletta and Freedom’s Watch are stating that I am against domestic oil drilling which is just plain wrong, and they know it,” said Congressman Kanjorski. “These groups have resorted to phone calls which are not just misrepresentations, but also plainly inaccurate.
“My constituents deserve to know the truth - I have a strong and consistent record of voting for domestic oil and gas exploration. None of these issues are new to my record. It appears that once again Republican Barletta, who has kicked off his advertising campaign by going negative, is resorting to more personally negative campaign tricks in an attempt to win votes.”
Congressman Kanjorski supports additional exploration of domestic sources of oil and gas to help America reduce its dependence on foreign oil. As a result, Congressman Kanjorski voted to:
Open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska for drilling;
Allow natural gas drilling 25 miles offshore;
Permit natural gas leasing in the Mid-Atlantic and South Atlantic;
End the moratorium on natural gas leasing in Outer Continental Shelf.
“As gas prices have topped $4 per gallon, it is essential that we work to address the rising costs of energy that are causing deep financial strains for many Americans,” said Congressman Kanjorski. “Fixing America’s energy problems does not need to be a partisan issue. I am working in Congress to find an energy solution that works for both parties, and includes domestic oil and gas exploration.”
Congressman Kanjorski is working in Congress to ease the pressure of energy costs that are causing financial strain for many American families by developing a long-term strategy to effectively combat these issues.
