KANJORSKI LEADS THE WAY ON ECONOMIC STIMULUS CHECKS
February 11, 2008
Congressman Kanjorski was a key player in the effort to get our economy moving again.
Because families all over our region and America are feeling the squeeze, and with rising health care, food and gas prices, Congressman Kanjorski joined in a bipartisan effort to ease the economic woes of working families.
“That’s why I voted for the economic stimulus package that will inject much-needed funds into taxpayers’ pockets and the economy. I also led the effort to expand the package to include cash benefits for senior citizens and disabled veterans,” Kanjorski said.
The Congressman’s leadership garnered special praise from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi when she applauded passage of the legislation (see Pelosi video in the Kanjorski TV section of this website.)
Kanjorski helped kick-start the tough economy by voting to approve rebates of up to $600 per individual and $1,200 per couple. Families with children under 17 will receive an additional $300 per child.
When Congress began discussing the economic stimulus package and rebates, Frank Giambrone of Scranton brought it to the Congressman’s attention that seniors and disabled veterans who do not normally pay taxes would not be eligible for a rebate.
“To address this problem, I pushed for cash benefits for seniors and disabled vets. As a result, 20 million additional seniors and 250,000 disabled veterans nationwide will receive the cash rebate,: Kanjorski said.
